Some Travel Choices for Spas
(Continued from September 6, 2010.)
Certainly, you can go to a neighborhood spa for a few hours, or to a nearby travel destination for a weekend. But the adventure of travel to a new place (foreign and exotic) may fill the travel lust...and avoid stress related demands as a “tourist.”
But where to go? Here are some suggested destinations:
Canada: The western and Pacific provinces offer a range of health clubs and spas, as well as exciting adventures. Canada offers the added bonus of familiar language and ease of entry.
Mexico: Spas can be traced to the ancient Aztecs, who bathed at the country’s many steaming hot springs. Modern Mexico has developed many equipped resort type spas.
The Bahamas, Bermuda, the Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe, the Virgin Islands and other Caribbean islands: Europeans brought their treatment practices along with their conquering soldiers and settlers.
Germany: Look at any map of Germany, and notice the amazing array of cities with the key words “Bad” or “Baden” (i.e., baths).
Italy: The Roman’s knew lots about spas and baths.
Turkey: Ever hear about “Turkish baths,” or “Turkish towels”?
Cruises: Many ships offer spa facilities and wellness programs.
Travel is stressful, and those with chronic illness may feel it more than others.
Whether you are abroad to do “touristy things,” business, or visit family, you should plan to rejuvenate yourself by spending time at a spa. Call a halt for a day or two to renew and refresh your energy and mind. Get a message and/or a pedicure, and think of nothing but quiet and serenity.
